Hi, my name is Ava and I am 15 years old. I am all about nutrition and fitness. I have been swimming competitively for 4 years now and I absolutely love it. I’ve made so many long-life friends and the swimming community is so supportive. The proudest moment I have experienced whilst swimming would be when I got 28 seconds in my 50 metres freestyle and when I qualified for State championships for the first time.
So, let’s talk about what you’re all here for… food! I am very passionate about nutrition and fuelling the body. My passion mostly started when I found out I was gluten intolerant, which opened me up to a whole new world of nutrition. My usual day to day diet includes 3 main meals- breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with about 4 snacks (and sometimes dessert).
I try to eat foods high in iron as my iron levels are low, so foods like spinach, quinoa, lean red meat, eggs, fish, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Carbs are my fuel for swimming – but while I need them it is difficult to incorporate carbs into my gluten free diet. So I mostly stick to carbs like brown rice, quinoa, types of potato, gluten free bread, pasta, oats, and crackers in my everyday diet. For my snacks, I try to eat things such as protein balls, crackers, vege sticks w/ hummus and fruit!
As much as I love carbs, on a Saturday I have training in the late morning so a good protein packed snack after is really good. I am going to share a recipe with the Amanzi squad that anyone can make: Chewy Peanut Butter Salted Caramel protein balls! You can pack so many nutritious ingredients into these balls, and they are perfect for a post training protein filled snack to replenish your muscles. Check out how to make thee delish protein balls in my video below!
Fast Facts about Ava:
Fave Food? My favorite ‘healthy food’ would be…. I have so many! I would say a few would be avocado, berries, natural peanut butter, and cacao SMOOTHIES (you can pack so much healthy goodness into them). My favorite indulgence food would have to be cake but I still have to have it GF and low sugar otherwise it does not make me feel so good. My favorite foods that I love to make are my homemade salted caramel pancakes, granola/muesli, and smoothies! You can find those in my food blog @eating_clean_with_ava!
Fave Stroke? my favorite swimming stroke would be freestyle, but I do love backstroke as well. I am a sprinter so I would say my favorite events would be the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke
Fave AMANZI Suit? My favorite Amanzi swimmers would be the Women’s Lolita one piece and the Santorini Bikini, I absolutely love the look of the Desert Blossom one piece as well, but I have not had the chance to get my hands on one yet!
