Before we dive right in (pun intended!) can you guess what the longest standing swimming Olympic record is?
It’s the Mens 800m swim! … with a time of 13:11.4. It was set in 1904, 116 years ago, when women were still not even able to compete! This record has been in place for so long because there has been no Mens 800m since! Although, the current world record sits at 7:32.12, almost half the time of the Olympic record!
Finally, the race was put back onto the schedule for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Even better, the Womens 1500m has been added to the schedule too, so everyone has equal opportunity to race. A mixed 4 x 100m relay will also take place for the first time and we can not wait to watch!
